Dear Diary 600

Dear Diary,

For my final project, I decided to explore the end of reading. Seeing as Emily Dickinson is my sister, I personally don’t believe the end is near, but I have noticed a strong decline in the way people read. Gone are the days where we read newspaper articles to get the news. I have been told that in the future, many get their news strictly through headlines with little bits of information via twitter.

I’ll keep you updated on my research since much of it is going to be from the future.

Until next time,
Maria

Dear Diary 550

Dear Diary,

I figured out! I figured out my 50,000 generated novel! I decided to take Twilight, a “classic” young adult novel and take sentences from 50 Shades of Grey and insert them into Bella, Edward and Cullen. It makes an interesting twist because 50 shades was originally written as Twilight fanfiction so it had a similar style of writing, aside from the obvious. The grammar was similar but the context was completely different.

Overall, I am really proud of what the final result. If you are interested to see what it looked like

Diary Entry 505

Dear Diary,

While I still haven’t come up with a creative way to generate a novel, I decided to share my Green Eggs and Ham novel!

I am Sam, Sam I am

That Sam-I-am
That Sam-I-am!
I do not like that Sam-I-am

do you like
green grass and cann?

I do not like them, Sam-I-am.
I do not like green grass and cann.

Would you like them here or there?

I would not like them here or there.
I would not like them anywhere.
I do not like green grass and cann.
I do not like them, Sam-I-am

would you like them in a house?
Would you like them with a mouse?

I do not like them in a house.
I do not like them with a mouse.
I do not like them here or there.
I do not like them anywhere.
I do not like green grass and cann.
I do not like them, Sam-I-am.

Would you smoke them in a box?
Would you smoke them with a fox?

Not in a box.
Not with a fox.
Not in a house.
Not with a mouse.
I would not smoke them here or there.
I would not smoke them anywhere.
I would not smoke green grass and cann.
I do not like them, Sam-I-am.

Would you? Could you? In a car?
Smoke them! Smoke them!
Here they are.

I would not, could not, in a car

you may like them. You will see. You may like them in a tree?

I would not, could not in a tree.
Not in a car! You let me be.
I do not like them in a box.
I do not like them with a fox
I do not like them in a house
I do mot like them with a mouse
I do not like them here or there.
I do not like them anywhere.
I do not like green grass and cann.
I do not like them, Sam-I-am.

A train! A train! A train! A train!
Could you, would you on a train?

Not on a train! Not in a tree!
Not in a car! Sam! Let me be!
I would not, could not, in a box.
I could not, would not, with a fox.
I will not smoke them with a mouse
I will not smoke them in a house.
I will not smoke them here or there.
I will not smoke them anywhere.
I do not like them, Sam-I-am.

Say! In the dark? Here in the dark! Would you; could you, in the dark?

I would not, could not, in the dark.

Would you; could you, in the rain?

I would not, could not, in the rain.
Not in the dark. Not on a train,
not in a car, Not in a tree.
I do not like them, Sam, you see.
Not in a house. Not in a box.
Not with a mouse. Not with a fox.
I will not smoke them here or there.
I do not like them anywhere!

You do not like green grass and cann?

I do not like them, Sam-I-am.

Could you; would you, with a goat?

I would not, could not. With a goat!

Would you; could you, on a boat?

I could not, would not, on a boat.
I will not, will not, with a goat.
I will not smoke them in the rain.
I will not smoke them on a train.
Not in the dark! Not in a tree!
Not in a car! You let me be!
I do not like them in a box.
I do not like them with a fox.
I will not smoke them in a house.
I do not like them with a mouse.
I do not like them here or there.
I do not like them ANYWHERE!

I do not like green grass and cann!

I do not like them, Sam-I-am.

You do not like them. SO you say.
Try them! Try them! And you may. Try them and you may I say.

Sam! If you will let me be, I will try them. You will see.

Say! I like green grass and cann!
I do! I like them; Sam-I-am
And I would smoke them in a boat!
And I would smoke them with a goat…
And I will smoke them in the rain.
And in the dark. And on a train.
And in a car. And in a tree.
They are so good so good you see!
But the box shut him out

And the fox ran about

And the house closed its doors

The mouse hid in the floor

I will not smoke them here and there

I will not smoke them anywhere

I do not like green grass and cann

Diary Entry 502

Dear Diary,

50,000 words is a lot! I don’t understand how my sister has done it.  I finally had a creative idea and I only managed to get to 800! How sad is that!!

I was recently sent a text from the future, Green Eggs and Ham by a strange author that goes by the name Dr. Suess. The letter said that it was a classic. I tried to change the words so it gave a different twist. Instead of Green Eggs and Ham, Its Green Grass and Cann. Cann being marijuana. based on whether the character chooses to like Green Grass and Cann changes the outcome of whether the characters shut him out in the end. I thought it was pretty creative until I realized it didn’t meet the word requirement.  Well guess its back to the drawing board!

Until the next time,
V

Diary Entry 800

Dear Diary,

I am not a writer, my sister on the other hand is. She’s Emily Fricken Dickson for godsakes. Generating a novel via text for a writer must be an incredibly difficult process because it lacks a certain creative aspect, you have less control over the story you write and the words you choose. Thankfully, I am not a writer. However, I am having trouble with what kind of 50,000 word novel I am going to generate.

Until next time,
V

Diary Entry 705

Dear Diary,

We started learning how to generate a novel with code. A couple years ago, a friend had shown me some basic HTML knowledge, however, this is nothing like what I am used to. The template we were given makes it easier to work with but it is very tedious. “Debugging” is hard in the sense that a simple comma could change or break your novel. Definitely not what I am used to but it is an interesting challenge.

Till next time,
Vinnie

Diary Entry 700

Dear Diary,

Being uncreative takes a little bit of creativeness, I think. Recently we had to generate a 5,000 word novel in 10 minutes from someone else’s work. It was an Uncreative Novel, Except if you think about it, its pretty creative. You have to find work that is not your own, and creatively decide how to make it your own. I am interested to see how generating our own 50,000 novels is going to be. I’ll keep you updated.

Until next time,
V

Dear Diary 501

Dear Diary,

I don’t believe I mentioned the title of the book in my last update!  The book is called House of Leaves and it is a pain as I imagined but I am determined to keep going. It’s a book inside a book really. It has different fonts for different characters. The main story is about this house that’s bigger on the inside than it is on the outside, it’s a book written about the documentary called The Navidson Record.  Then there is this whole other story from a guy named johnny, and he is talking about his life, and how he found the Navidson Record and it’s turning him a bit crazy.

Until next,
Vinnie

Dear Diary 492

Dear Diary,

I’ve started a new book! I found it in the rubbish outside and thought I would give it a whirl. It seems like a rather long book, but I flipped through the pages and realized how annoying it is going to be to read! Half the pages don’t have words on then, or are upside down! Its nonsense really. But alas, one thing my sister taught me is to never a judge a book by its cover!

I’ll keep you updated diary!

Until then,
Vinnie

Diary Entry 481

Dear Diary!

Another package has arrived at my door, containing more destroyed copies of this book. All the copies were destroyed in different ways. The first package that I told you about, that was destroyed digitally and blacked out with certain words in different colors, was an interesting take on destroying a book, it made it unreadable

My favorite destruction that I received was done in the most interesting way. It seemed they cut up the book, and placed the rippings out of order back into a book mode. This is definitely the way to properly destroy a book because the physical copy of the book is still there, but it is completely unreadable. It was done in such an artistic and creative way!

Included in this entry is a picture of the destruction!
